Back in 1998, not long after working in a camera store, I began photographing almost everyone in my environment. This included my friends, co-workers, and any interesting person I would meet. Unlike many aspects of my life, I¹ve yet to successfully define why making images has become the all-encompassing singularity it has, aside from recognizing the simple fact that taking pictures means everything to me. I like to harness spontaneity from the moment of taking pictures. Color is a considerable influence in my images. It tends to organize the tone of my pictures although not by dominating them. I know my work is done when we¹ve laughed, cried, or when the police show up. I trend towards challenging convention and pushing socially accepted boundaries. One of the underlying motivations of my work is to bring a measure of levity to subject matters otherwise considered provocative or controversial.
